NAPOLI

Day 1: Arrival in Naples

• Arrive in Naples, the gateway to the Amalfi Coast.

• Visit landmarks such as the Naples Cathedral, Royal Palace of Naples, and Castel Nuovo. 

Day 2: Pompeii and Vesuvius

• Take a day trip to the ancient city of Pompeii, buried under ash and lava during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
• Explore the well-preserved ruins of Pompeii, including the Forum, amphitheater, and House of the Vettii.

PROCIDA

Procida is a lovely little island in The Bay Of Naples. It's lesser known than the much more famous Island of Capri, and Ischia as well. If you go there, you'll get more of a local experience than the previous two islands mentions. Procida is a 12 minute boat ride away from Ischia, and about a half hour from Capri, and 45 minutes to Naples or Sorrento.

The movies The Talented Mr. Ripley, and IL Positano were both partial filmed on Procida.

Day 3: Sorrento

• Travel to the charming town of Sorrento, perched atop rugged cliffs overlooking the Bay of Naples.

Day 4: Capri

Board your climate-controlled minibus and relax on the journey inland to Pompeii. Once you arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage–listed archaeological digs, skip the admission lines and head off on a tour to discover Pompeii’s highlights. As you explore, learn about the destructive volcanic eruption of AD 79 that buried the ancient city for centuries. The ash and molten lava that streamed out of Mt. Vesuvius preserved the town remarkably, and many original landmarks can be found around the site. After a break for lunch at your own expense, continue with a drive up the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius. I will never forget going to Positano for the first time, back in the Summer of 1985, and going into the bathroom at Bar International, after I got off the bus from Rome, that dropped us off right in front of Bar International. I grabbed my bags and went into the bar for an espresso and something to eat. 

I went into the bathroom, and saw something similar to the picture above. The bathroom of the bar was built right into the mountain, and had the mountain rock as one of its walls. Wow, I thought. This is amazing.

After refreshing myself at Bar International, I grabbed my bags and made my way down to where my hotel was. I checked into my room at Villa Maria Antoinetta Pensione, and after taking a shower and dressing into some fresh clothes, I went down to the beach a bit, and explored the town.

That night, I had my first ever meal at Da Vincenzo's on the Via Pasitea, Positano, and again, I saw the same thing. The building was built right into the mountainside cliff of Positano. The picture above, is what I saw, one of the two dining rooms at Da Vincenzo. I met some of the family that owned the restaurant, Jesse and Victor, and I had a nice plate of Spaghetti Vongole and some wine, and I had a wonderful time, dinner that night at Da Vincenzo.
