WHY Are POSITANO HOTELS so EXPENSIVE ??
On Average, Hotels in POSITANO are expensive compared to other places you'd visit in Italy for 2 reasons : The inventory in Positano is limited. There are not many places to stay, especially budget friendly options. The demand to stay in Positano is high !!!
There are not many ways around it, hotels in Positano are "Very Very Expensive" ... There are a very few instances where you might be able to get a room for less than $200 a night, but these are very rare, and the few rooms that are available at lowere prices are usually booked months in advance and if you go on Booking.com , Hotels.com , Expedia or any hotel websites, all of the cheaper rooms are likely already taken, and you will only find rooms (hotels) for $500 a night and up. Yes, "Saying in Positano is Very EXPENSIVE," and there are not many ways around it if you want to stay in a Hotel right in Positano. Many who just can't afford these insanely high-prices will opt to stay in nearby Sorrento or Salerno, in hotels thaat are much more affordabel and reasonably priced. Then they will take ferry boats or buses to get from Sorrento, Salerno, or Minori, to visit Positano on day trips, from their base in oter towns.
Other who have their hearys set on a stay in a hotel right in Positano, might opt to get a hotel room for just two days in Positano, and stay in a hotel in Sorrento or some place else for the remainder of their time in the area.
I myself used to stay in Positano all the time, back in the day, when Positano was a lot more affordable. I started going to Positano, way back in the Summer of 1985, long before the place becam inandated with way too many tourist, and began demanding price that were prohitive to those on a budget.
These days, I usally go stay on Capri for a few days, and when I want to be on the coast, I stay in either Salerno, or at the Villa Maria Lemon Farm Agriturismo that I discovered a few years ago."The place is Amazin, and I just Love it." And it's so very affordable.
In 2019 I discovered a wonderful Hotel in Salerno, that I absolutely adore. It's the Hotel Plaza, and is a wonderful place, that has a great location that makes it a perfect place to use a base to stay in and explore the entire area of the Amalfi Coast, whether you want to visit : Positano, Capri, Naples, Ravello, Pompeii, or any of the wonderful spots on the coast, and nearby.
I absolutely adore the Hotel Plaza in Salerno. What agreat find it was. I never expected such a great hotel when I booked it. I was on Booking.com , and it was affordable, and looked like a good place. Well it's much better than good, "the place is Fabulous" !!! This is due inpart to the family who own it, how caring they are, and how wonderfully they run their hotel. And when it comes to the family, I am escpecially speaking of Gaetano, who was kind enough to befriend me, and go out of his way to take care of me, and make sure that I had a wonderful time in his hotel. He suceeded imeasurably.
Besides being a well run hotel, that is super clean, serves a tasty breakfast, is very affordable, and provides impeccable service, the Hotel Plaza has the best location of any hotel in all of Salerno. The Train Station is directly across the street, and the Marine Ferry Terminal where you can catch boats that will take you to Positano, Amalfi, Cetera, and Capri, is just a short 3 block walk from the hotel. No need for a Taxi.
You can get a room for $100 a night or less for two people, with a wonderful breakfast includes. And you can hop on train to explore Naples some day, and in a short 40 minute ride, you in Napoli, the World Capital of Pizza. Catch a ferry boat, and its 30 minutes to Amalfi, and about 50 minutes to Positano. The place is great.
